Vision and Values
Ethical approach
INOVEC places a strong emphasis on ethical research practices throughout its diverse activities involving human participants, animal research, data management, and international collaboration. The project adheres strictly to international guidelines to ensure the protection of rights and well-being of all stakeholders involved.
As the project coordinator, the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) takes responsibility for ensuring compliance with legal requirements. This includes verifying research legality in at least one EU Member State for activities conducted outside of Europe.
To maintain responsible research practices and prioritize advancements in vector research for global health, INOVEC appoints an independent Ethics Advisor. Fanny Momboisse, an expert in medical ethics and bioethics with extensive experience in advising and conducting ethical research involving humans, fulfills this role. Fanny’s expertise is invaluable in providing guidance to the Ethical Advisory Board (EAB) and collaborating with the consortium.
By upholding strict ethical standards, obtaining necessary approvals, and leveraging collaborations, INOVEC ensures the responsible conduct of research and maintains a strong commitment to ethical principles.
MSCA Green charter
INOVEC fully embraces the MSCA Green Charter, aligning with the European Commission’s commitment to sustainability. The project demonstrates a strong dedication to monitoring and addressing environmental impacts at every stage. Efforts are made to minimize the carbon footprint associated with team transportation, with a preference for remote governance meetings whenever feasible. Additionally, INOVEC prioritizes digital media for communication materials, reserving print formats for content that specifically requires a physical medium. These practices actively contribute to aligning the project with sustainability goals and minimizing its ecological footprint.
Gender equity
INOVEC demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing gender equality and inclusivity in its research endeavors. Academic partners within the EU have implemented gender equality plans, and the project’s private partners actively promote professional equality in staff recruitment and promotion, particularly for early-stage researchers. As the project coordinator, IRD has established its own gender equality plan and is currently working towards obtaining the prestigious HRS4R label, aligning with the law on the Transformation of the Public Service. This commitment reflects continuous efforts to improve human resources practices for the benefit of all researchers. The aim is to foster dedication to society, uphold ethical principles and professional responsibility, implement transparent and non-discriminatory recruitment policies, and enhance the overall quality of life and professional development of researchers.
Additionally, transparent statistics on mobilities, including duration, the number of applicants, and the gender diversity of secondees, will be provided.
Open Science
INOVEC fully supports the EU’s Open Science Policy and adheres to Research Integrity standards by prioritizing Open Science practices. As a project funded by Horizon Europe, emphasis is placed on Open Science, Open Access, citizen engagement, inter-sectoral participation, and efficient Data Management.
Non-sensitive data in the project will be openly shared to accelerate research progress, while sensitive data, such as patent-related results, will be handled appropriately. All research outputs and knowledge sharing within INOVEC will adhere to the guidelines set forth by the FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse) principle.
To disseminate the project’s findings, public platforms such as Vectorbase, ECDC/VectorNet, WIN network, and the Global Vector Hub will be utilized. These platforms enable the sharing of bioinformatics, genomic sequences, vector presence data, resistance databases, and other research materials.
The Mosquito Alert platform, hosted by the partner CSIC in Spain, will facilitate the sharing of mosquito surveillance results, including citizen science data management and procedures.
